Responsible RV Travel

As Australia's largest recreational vehicle club, CMCA takes seriously the responsibility that comes with having 60,000 members travelling across the country. We have long been at the forefront of promoting environmentally responsible travel, and our approach is backed by formal policy, member accountability and a genuine commitment to protecting the places we love.

Our commitment

CMCA has established the Self-Contained Vehicle (SCV) Policy and Leave No Trace® (LNT) Code of Conduct as the foundation of our approach to sustainable RV travel. Together, these frameworks demonstrate to councils, land managers and controlling authorities that self-contained vehicles need not have a negative impact on the environment, even when camping in locations with no facilities.

How We Uphold It

Members who participate in the Leave No Trace program must have a vehicle that meets the requirements of the CMCA SCV Policy, including the capacity to hold fresh, grey and black water, as well as storage for waste. To qualify, a vehicle must retain all waste within its confines and leave no trace of its visit to a site.
Members sign a declaration committing to comply with the SCV Policy and LNT Code of Conduct. Accredited vehicles display a card that serves as verifiable proof of participation, should any controlling authority request it.

Why It Matters

For councils, land managers and communities that provide access to RV travellers, CMCA accreditation offers genuine assurance. It means the members arriving at your site have made a formal commitment to travel responsibly, manage their waste appropriately and respect the environments they visit.
